Animation Planet Film Festival

Animation Planet was co founded by Shawn Brewer and Josie Colt. Two Maine based artists who strive to establish a fun and relevant community of makers in the animation field.

From stop motion to 2D drawn, the festival celebrates northeast makers in a unique community organized film festival. We bring workshops, demonstrations and an opportunity for networking to everyone to attends.

We pride ourselves on being a unique and accessible festival with no submission fees, providing a chance for novices and experts alike to screen their videos to the public.

A Little Bit About Us...

Animation Planet is a regionally organized film festival with the mission to create a shared platform to showcase animated films made by local animators of all animation mediums and experience levels. The festival's intention is to provide an accessible opportunity for animators to expose their work to the public and to build upon Northern New England’s community of animation creators and appreciators.

The inaugural festival was held in Portland, Maine in September 2023 at Congress Square Park. Shadow puppets and flip books were made before the audience settled down to watch the screening unfold under the stars.

Currently the festival is held every year in Portland, Maine!

What kind of animation do you screen?

All kinds! From paper collage animation to 2D traditional hand drawn, we want to showcase everything from the cartoon to the abstract!
Films submitted are in lengths of 60secs- 10mins.

Who is this for?

Our audience is broadly accessible to all appreciators of animation, with some adult discretion required for young ones.
We want to showcase a wide variety of animation work; amateurs and newcomers to animation are welcome to apply! we encourage experimentation and accessibility in our community.
